PainterSOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. located in San Diego, CA shipyard related subcontractor looking to hire a Painter for our Preservation Department.Under general supervision, a Painter will perform routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, and a full range of specialized painting projects including, painting large structures in severe environment; performs inspections, clean ups, storage, and disposal of paint products; and operates various tools and equipment. May be required to perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the Production manager for the completion of the job in a safe and timely manner.Must be able to travel.Responsibilities:Prepare a variety of routine and preventive maintenance painting dutiesPrepare and mix paint, specifically standard epoxies and UHS coatingsPrepare and paint a variety of surfaces including, aluminum, ferrous metal, interior shop coat metal, uncoated metal, accessories, and other surfaces as specified; protect and prime surfaces as appropriate; apply finish coating to our standardsCorrect work as directed, any imperfections in the finishClean up work areas, equipment, supplies and materials; apply standard safety practices and proceduresAlways follow manufacturers specificationAssist in training other workers as necessaryUse proper PPEEffectively using heavy and light equipment, depending on the jobsite/assignmentImplement and follow the company's safety, quality, and environmental policies; and OSHA requirements in the shipbuilding industryQualifications:Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelinesAttentive to detail and alert always to ensure safetyAble to receive, and follow instructions and communicate with co-workersExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to safely operate various vehicles and equipmentPrevious experience, especially in particular industry, 3 years preferredSSPC C12 or C14 CertificationEducation Requirements:High school diploma or GED, B.A., Technical/Vocational trade school, or apprenticeshipWorking Conditions and Physical Demands:Work is conducted indoors and outdoors frequently exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Work indoor or aboard vessel which may have fumes, chemicals, and heat as well as noise and dust present depending upon the location of work. Safety equipment required.The individual must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical. Work aboard the vessels can be strenuous and sometimes hazardous. Dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
